Buxton nets Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club project

A $3.3 million project at Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club – one of Australia's longest-established and most prestigious sporting and social clubs – provides new and expanded dining, bar, lounge and gymnasium facilities as well as improved amenities for members and a new pedestrian entry to the car park.

Designed by Melbourne-based architectural firm, Carr Design, the steel-frame and concrete slab structure incorporates a combination of thermo-tech double-glazing to the southerly and westerly aspects.

Brickwork and Alucobond cladding along with broad expanses of standard glazing, providing enhanced views of the courts, complement the functionality and appearance of the facade.

Restricted access to the site, severe space limitations, the proximity of construction activities to grass courts and the necessity to reinforce the suspended concrete roof of the car park to accommodate the additional load during the construction period, add to the complexity of Buxton Construction's task.

The project is staged to allow the club to operate normally and provide a comprehensive range of services to members and their guests throughout the construction period.
