Buxton builds on its educational experience

The new three-level structure at Beth Rivkah Ladies College East St Kilda presents Buxton Construction with a number of challenges.  A retention system to the basement ensures the integrity of structures on an adjacent residential property which are situated within two metres of the excavation.

The small campus is densely occupied by buildings, allowing limited entry to the construction site and severely limiting the space available for workers' amenities.  The project also includes extensions to an existing hall which will remain in use, students and teachers will be close to construction activity at times so safety is our primary consideration.

Extensive consultation with school officials throughout the project will keep them fully appraised of forthcoming building activities so that alternate arrangements can be made where necessary to ensure disruption to the school community's daily routine is minimal.

Designed by Melbourne-based architect McIldowie Partners, the $3.4 million project is attached to an existing auditorium and includes the construction of classrooms, computer laboratory, language centre, performing arts studio, music tuition areas and social spaces for student recreation.
