The $1.5 million refurbishment of the college's 50-metre swimming pool and amenities included removal of the existing finish to the pool to enable the entire pool to be filled.
A survey of the structure after it had been drained revealed that the walls were not within accepted tolerances, causing the floating fibre-glass boom that divides the pool into sections to twist and jam. As a consequence, it was necessary for Buxton Construction to realign the pool walls prior to refurbishment work commencing.
An upgraded filtration system incorporated the installation of two large above-ground tanks for treating and recycling back-wash which had previously been emptied into the storm water drain.
The contract provided for extensive refurbishment of change rooms and the installation of new mechanical system designed to eliminate the build-up of condensation in the pool hall replacing the original ineffective flow-through ventilation system.
