As part of a major rehabilitation of historic Queenscliff Harbour, the $10.3 million design and construct project is stage 3 of a redevelopment that will see the area become a premier working and leisure port as well as a tourist destination.
Comprising three separate buildings, the design of Queenscliff Harbours retail strip, community centre and cafe/fine dining restaurant is subject to strict planning guidelines relating to height, floor area and visual manifestations.
Glazing is employed extensively on the steel-framed buildings and cladding materials, which include spotted gum timber, anodised aluminium and copper, have long-term low maintenance requirements to withstand the seaside environment.
Buxtons contract includes construction of a 31-metre-high navigational aid tower - with an internal/external staircase - that doubles as a public viewing platform, providing a 360-degree perspective of the harbour and town.
