Royal Melbourne Golf Club

A major project involving construction of new clubhouse facilities and extensive site works as well as the refurbishment of the existing staff amenities block, kitchen and men’s locker room.

The club’s brief was to create a building that would provide every amenity for members and their guests but externally would look as though it had been there for 30 years.

To achieve this objective reclaimed slate was used on the roof in preference to new material and external plumbing fittings such as guttering and downpipes are made of copper, which develops a characteristic greenish patina as it weathers.

Buxton’s task, which was completed ahead of schedule, was made more complex because it was necessary to keep disruption to the club’s daily routine to an absolute minimum during the construction period.
